Endless day

We are here!!!!

(In Hong Kong, that is.) We arrived right on schedule. The flight was LONG, but pretty smooth. Our route took us out over the Hudson Bay, near the North Pole, and down over Siberia, Mongolia and China into Hong Kong--lots of tundra and ice, according to Joel's account from his window seat. The crazy thing about flying to Asia is that it never gets dark. Our day felt like it went on forever--from Thursday morning until Friday evening, the sun never went down for us! It was sort of a relief to watch the sun setting over the mountains tonight.

At the airport, we made it through immigration and customs without a hitch and found Matthew within minutes. He is determined to get our schedules adjusted, so we showered and went out to dinner after we got back to his place--probably the sixth time we'd eaten since beginning our journey! Tomorrow we are scheduled to take a boat ride and hike (apparently pretty low-key) to a beach that he likes to visit. We're not sure how the rest of our time will shape up, but Matthew has all kinds of ideas and a flexible schedule. So he'll be able to take great care of us.

HK is hot, but greener than I expected, quieter and less crowded-feeling than Manila. Transport is plentiful and easy to use, so I'm sure that we'll have been all over the place by the time we leave. It's FUN to be back in Asia!
